That's why I gave up on proprietary drivers. The Open source drivers available for Debian are pretty good these days and they survive upgrades. Post by ozgta » OK thanks, How do I uninstall the "fglrx" driver and install the open source one?
I see there are a lot of references to ATI and "fglrx" in synaptic and also a lot of xserver-xorg-video-xxxx drivers installed, I don't want to install ro uninstall the incorrect package. Post by stevepusser » You might just be running the non-accelerated vesa driver. The open source driver with acceleration is xserver-xorg-video-radeon. Let's see what driver you have right now.
Install hwinfo , then in a terminal execute su -c 'hwinfo --gfxcard' and see if it tells you what module it's using. If not, try the lsmod command to see loaded drivers and check if vesa or radeon is loaded. My system it's dead now after installing xmlib2 and uninstall it and I was remount. I see only console with login form. I was try restore system using GRUB advance settings and system it's freeze after detecting mouse.

If possible, the installer will now present you with a shell prompt in the file system you selected, which you can use to perform any necessary repairs. For example, if you need to reinstall the GRUB boot loader into the master boot record of the first hard disk, you could enter the command grub-install ' hd0 ' to do so.
If the installer cannot run a usable shell in the root file system you selected, perhaps because the file system is corrupt, then it will issue a warning and offer to give you a shell in the installer environment instead.
